(283) Proposal to amend the use of the termination ‐<i>ara</i> in forming nothogeneric names

Article H.6 of the Shenzhen Code (Turland & al. in Regnum Veg. 159. 2018) provides instructions for formation nothogeneric names intergeneric hybrids. H.6.3 and H.6.4, dealing with hybrids involving three or more genera, provide a name to be formed from person which is added termination -ara. This very workable procedure. However, when personal used already ends -a, addition -ara produces double name, as ×Hayataara J.M.H. Shaw, named Bunzô Hayata (1874–1934). There are at least 48 nothogenera Orchidaceae where -a. None known other families. At times, based on ending -a have been by modified -ra as, example, ×Iwanagara Iwanaga Wreford Ernest T. Iwanaga, ×Kagawara Kagawa Hiroshi ×Yamadara M. Yamada Masao Yamada, whereas ×Perreiraara Perreira Robert J. conforms present rule. The current proposal designed simplify spelling pronunciation avoiding name.
